There seem to be so many different hand positions used in meditation. What is the difference between them?

The hand positions used in mediation usually refer to a certain connection of meridians which will provide larger effects in strengthening the operation of our chi movement and calm our minds to a certain level. Different hand positions are used for different purposes where we try to concentrate and open up different meridians or chakras systems. Some of these hand positions relate to the strengthening of our chi system, while others focus more on our mind. The Taoist and Tibetan Buddhist traditions contain practices using these hand positions as a tool to strengthen our power. Learning to use these hand signs is difficult, taking more than ten years of serious training before you are able to manipulate them without hurting yourself.
